Facebook announces 4K photo sharing ability on Messenger
NEW DELHI: Facebook is making photo sharing even better in its standalone messaging app, Messenger. The social media giant has announced that it will now support higher resolution images than before.
Using the messaging platform people can now share images in 4K resolution, which is one of the highest quality images a handset can support.

“That’s why today, we’re excited to share that people can send and receive photos in Messenger at 4K resolution — or up to 4,096 x 4,096 pixels per image — the highest quality many smartphones support. We heard that people want to send and receive high resolution photos in Messenger — and considering people send more than 17 billion photos through Messenger every month — we’re making your conversations richer, sharper, and better than ever,” say Sean Kelly & Hagen Green, Product Managers, Messenger on the blog post.

Facebook has also confirmed that users will still be able to send the photos at the same pace like they did before. Higher resolution won’t take more time to share.

This new image sharing feature comes few days after the arrival of the Discover tab — the feature lets users find and browse bots and business Pages.

You can find the Discover icon on the lower right hand corner of the Messenger Home screen. This feature will let people browse recently visited businesses, featured experiences and categories, with two of the categories expanded and rotated out on a regular basis.

Facebook said that both the featured unit as well as the bots and Pages in the various categories are refreshed regularly.

The “Discover” tab works with new parametric Messenger codes, where people can scan the codes through the Messenger camera and link to their favourite brands and businesses. Facebook also added chat extensions to the Messenger app that allow multiple people to chat with the same business at the same time.
