In the coming time, rail travel can be easy for rail passengers. Railways are bringing techniques that will increase more than four lakh seats (berths) every day from October for reservation in trains. For this, the Railway Department is going to adopt such technology which will not require separate power car (generator box) for lighting and air conditioning for coaches and it will be done only through the engine. Senior railway officials informed this on Wednesday. Currently, there are one to two generator bogie in every train with Halfmann Bush (LHB) coaches. All these coaches are supplied with electricity from these diesel generators. It is known as ‘End On Generation’ (EOG) Technology.
6000 crores annually to save
Officials said that soon the department is going to start using ‘Head on Generation’ (HOG) Technology across the globe. Electricity wires from the top of the train in this technology also have electricity for the coaches. Officials said that about 500 coaches of Indian Railways will be operating from HOG technology from October 2019. This will help in the removal of generators from trains and the convenience of applying extra bins in them. Not only this, it will save more than Rs 6,000 crore annually on railway fuel. Only one non-AC compartment needs 120 units of electricity per hour to supply electricity. To generate such power, the generator consumes 40 liters of diesel per hour. The same consumption of fuel for AC compartment increases to 65 to 70 liters of diesel per hour.Read more ↓
New system eco-friendly
Officials said that this new system is environmentally friendly. There will be no air and noise pollution. At the same time, it will reduce the carbon emission by 700 tons every year according to each train. According to officials, “For example, two generator bogis are installed in every Shatabdi Express. When we start using the HOG system then only one generator bogey will be required for standby in such trains. “The officials said that according to their estimates, when all trains with LHB coaches will start running from new technology, then from additional coaches About four lakh berths will be available every day. This will increase railways income also
