New Delhi railway station will have lounge rooms by March where passengers will be able to wait comfortably. Waiting rooms are being upgraded to lounges similar to the ones present in airports. Passengers will have to pay Rs 10 per hour to enjoy the lounge room facilities, reported Times of India.
According to the report, the upgraded cloak rooms will provide digital locker service at minimal cost. The project is in progress and older waiting rooms are being renovated and given a makeover so that passengers can use them by March this year. Some other facilities like food trolleys, charging points, printing facilities, vending machines and travel desk will also be provided to the passengers, the report added. The lounges will reportedly have glass walls which will allow passengers to have a direct view of the platform. and entry to these lounges will be regulated by a card-based system.
The ToI report quoted Delhi division railway manager RN Singh saying, “The New Delhi station will soon have a new look waiting lounges with upgraded and plush interiors, modern furniture and toilets and additional amenities like travel desk, printers, food stall, free magazines, tea/coffee machines and DTH TV service so that passengers can utilise their waiting time in a productive manner.”
He further told the national daily that the cost has been kept low in order to encourage more people to use the lounge room instead of crowding the platforms especially during peak hours. Similar lounge rooms will also be visible in Nizamuddin and Old Delhi railway stations soon.
The report stated that these upgraded cloak rooms with digital lockers will have CCTV surveillance. Passengers will be able to use the digital locker service through the mobile app and can pay for the same using digital wallets as well.
